RACE COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS’ DEFAULT RESPONSIBILITIES

 

BOTH VOLUNTEERS

Ideally you are expected to arrive at the beach by 5.00 pm. Your first task is to help prepare the buoys and the boat for a 5.20 pm departure. Please make sure you have a watch set to the atomic clock, whistle and a backup pen. If you are going to be late make sure the other volunteer knows.

On your return to the beach the race bag is returned to its hook in the boat trailer. The flags are clipped in their place. You are required to neatly coil the anchor rodes and hang up the buoys.

Your last task is to drain and clean the boat so as to leave it in mint condition for the next user.

 

COURSE SETTER/START LINE OBSERVER (Ideally should Have Current Harbour License)

Set Course/ Set Start Line/Flags/Finish +Timing/Sounds/Record Results/Guillotine

Ideally you are expected to arrive at the beach by 5.00 pm. Your first task is to help prepare the buoys and the boat for a 5.20 pm departure. Please make sure you have a watch set to the atomic clock, whistle and a backup pen.

You will be responsible for setting the windward and leeward marks.

You will be responsible for setting the start line by 5.45 pm ready for the 6.00pm start sequence.

You will be responsible for all flag signals co-coordinated with the sounds.

You will be responsible for observing the line at the start.

You will be responsible for the sounds associated with OCS (on course side-over earlies) and general recalls.

You be responsible for providing the jibe and finish information for to the recorder to record. You will provide the finish whistle.

You will help return the boat to the club house and help coiling the mark anchor rodes, hanging up the marks on the hooks and clipping the flags into their space. You will help drain and clean the boat so as to leave it in mint condition ready for the next user.

 

TIMER RECORDER  (Ideally should Have Current Harbour License)

Timing/Sounds/Record Results/Guillotine

Ideally you are expected to arrive at the beach by 5.00 pm. Your first task is to help prepare the buoys and the boat for a 5.20 pm departure. Please make sure you have a watch set to the atomic clock, whistle and a backup pen.

On the water you are responsible for the timing of the start sequences and timing of the guillotine flag. The first race sequence starts at 6.00pm.

You will be responsible for the sounds associated with the start sequences and the guillotine flag.

You will be responsible for initiating the new start sequences. You will also be responsible for calculating the guillotine cutoff time. You

will be responsible for recording the jibe and finish times.

You will give the results to the Race Director Paul Carr. In the absence of the Race Director, the results will be left in the binder in the race bag.

You will help hanging the race bag on its hook in the boat trailer, clipping the flags in their place, coiling the anchor rodes and hanging up the buoys. You will help drain and clean the boat so as to leave it in mint condition.

 

COURSE SETTER/START LINE OBSERVER AND TIMER/RECORDER

There are 22 Wednesday night Regattas

The club needs 44 Volunteer nights to donate 31/2 hours from 5.00 pm to 8.30 pm to prepare the boat, run the races clean the boat and put away the equipment. Some Volunteers may have to volunteer more than once. There must be at least one volunteer in the boat with a harbour license. At least one volunteer must be comfortable with setting courses and starting lines.

 

RACE COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON - CHRISTOPHER HOPE

Christopher Hope will either appoint a substitute or personally be responsible for filling in for either of the above positions should a substitute be required. He will be responsible for protest meetings. He reports to the race director -Paul Carr.

 

RACE DIRECTOR - PAUL CARR

Paul Carr has the overall responsibility for running Wednesday night races. However, Nick Cox will be  responsible for posting race results on the TWC Website for 2008. Paul reports to the President and Directors of the TWC.
