TWC hosts Annual CYA/OS Windsurfer Instructor Course

If you are interested in becoming a CYA certified instructor, TWC can help you achieve that goal. CYA certified instructors are often hired for camps. If you are a young person looking for summer employment, you may enjoy teaching windsurfing as a CYA certified instructor. If you are a TWC Learn to Windsurf student who has progressed and would like to help teach our new students, you will find the skills you need to do so, and we can provide plenty of volunteer opportunities to practise those skills. If you are an experienced windsurfer, consider taking the instructor's course to learn the most up to date instructional tips.

Annually OSA holds CYA Windsurfing Instructors Course both Level I and II at TWC
The Windsurfing Instructor Program is a dynamic course designed to teach individuals how to instruct safe, fun, and effective windsurfing programs. The course is open to novice, intermediate, and advanced windsurfers, with certification awarded at the end of the course dependent on demonstrated skill level and teaching experience.

Instructors Note:

If you plan to use the motor boat a PLEASURE CRAFT OPERATIORS CARD and OUTER HARBOUR LICENSE are required for operation of the boat.  You are not authorized to use the boat otherwise.

The Ontario Pleasure Craft Operators Card may be obtained online at http://www.boaterexam.com/canada/

The Outer Harbour License may be obtained by calling Angie at 416-778-1230 to schedule a test time. These times are offered on Thursdays at 10am and 1pm (you’ll have to wit till school is over). Cost is $25

Study from the SAFE BOATING GUIDE and TORONTO PORT AUTHORITY PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES.  These are free and can be picked up from Angie at the Outer Harbor Marina. The office is located on Unwin Dr. near TWC.

The test takes 2 hours and includes a 45 minute lecture and use of a boat to perform the test.

No instructor should be driving the motor boat without possessing both of these licenses. Failure to produce proof of both licenses if required may result in a pretty big fine.  Instructors — you can always organize a study group and also go together. Maybe someone can volunteer and give you a practice run on the motor boat.
